Riparian Area Regulation RAR

Riparian Areas RegulationAre you developing withing 30 meters of a watercourse? You may be subject to the Riparian Areas Regulation - RAR. We can help you meet these requirements. Based out of Vernon in the Okanagan Valley, Sage Environmental offers QEP (Qualified Environmental Professional) services to all RAR areas in BC.

Under RAR development includes the following activities:

(a) removal, alteration, disruption or destruction of vegetation;
(b) disturbance of soils;
(c) construction or erection of buildings and structures;
(d) creation of nonstructural impervious or semi-impervious surfaces;
(e) flood protection works;
(f) construction of roads, trails, docks, wharves and bridges;
(g) provision and maintenance of sewer and water services;
(h) development of drainage systems;
(i) development of utility corridors;
(j) subdivision

RAR Applies in the following areas;

Capital Region, Central Okanagan, Columbia-Shuswap, Comox-Strathcona, Cowichan Valley, Fraser Valley, Greater Vancouver (except the city of Vancouver), Nanaimo, North Okanagan, Okanagan-Similkameen, Powell River, Squamish-Lillooet, Sunshine Coast, Thompson-Nicola, Trust area under the Islands Trust Act

Groundwater contamination has been an issue of concern recently in the North Okanagan. The communities of Coldstream and Lavington are feeling the effects of a contaminated groundwater supply.
